With the increasing prevalence of cancer and dementia, demand for early detection is rising, driving the expansion of PET imaging. To meet these market needs, high-quality scintillator single crystals are essential for achieving high-precision detection performance. Consequently, precious metal crucibles, including iridium crucibles that influence crystal purity, must meet stringent requirements for high purity and rigorous quality control.
Increasing demand for optical communication devices for high-capacity data centers
Demand for high-capacity data centers, particularly for generative AI applications, is growing rapidly. To meet these market needs, single crystals used in optical communication devices, such as Faraday rotators, must exhibit low defect density and low optical loss. As a result, the precious metal products used to grow these crystals require high-precision processing technologies and high-strength materials that enable stable crystal growth.
Growth in smartphones operating in high-frequency bands
The market for smartphones compatible with high-frequency bands, including 5G, is expanding. SAW filters are essential components for ensuring stable communication performance. The lithium tantalate (LT) and lithium niobate (LN) crystals used in these filters are grown in iridium and platinum crucibles.
