Furuya Metal manufactures platinum-based glass melting instruments used for melting LCD glass and optical glass. In addition to crucibles, we also produce precision-fabricated products requiring advanced processing accuracy, including nozzles, bushings, and stirring blades.
Liquid crystal glass and optical glass manufacturing processes require extremely high levels of transparency, homogeneity, and impurity control. Within the critical melting process, platinum products are employed as indispensable materials. Platinum remains chemically highly stable even under high-temperature conditions, resulting in minimal metal contamination and reaction during glass melting. This suppresses impurity contamination in the glass and prevents display irregularities and degradation of optical properties. In addition, its outstanding corrosion resistance enables long-term use with glass melts containing alkaline components and various additives. Furuya Metal manufactures a comprehensive range of instruments used throughout the melting process, from large-scale melting vessels to stirring blades.

Oxide-dispersion-strengthened platinum (GS-FPO)
GS-FPO (Grain Stabilized Furuya Platinum alloys with Oxide particles) is Furuya Metal’s proprietary oxide-dispersion-strengthened platinum material. It is produced by uniformly dispersing trace amounts of oxide particles within platinum. By optimizing the dispersion state of the oxide particles and controlling the grain structure into an elongated morphology, GS-FPO achieves long service life and stable creep strength, contributing to extended product lifetime for various instruments. It is widely used in applications where contamination control is critical, including glass melting instruments and single-crystal growth processes.
