A platinum (Pt) cap fitted over the thermocouple tip reduces gas attack, helping to prevent deterioration of the thermocouple wires. This protection against tip degradation significantly extends service life, achieving more than three times the service life of Furuya Metal's conventional thermocouples.

These thermocouples are used in a wide range of applications, including annealing processes for advanced ceramics and chip capacitors, as well as in the glass industry. Furuya Metal also offers products equipped with platinum or reinforced platinum protection tubes.

Type C thermocouples (WRe thermocouples) can measure temperatures up to approximately 2,300°C in vacuum and inert atmospheres. By attaching a tungsten (W) tip to the thermocouple tip, service life can be significantly extended.
