Signed a Joint Venture Agreement with a Subsidiary of Anglo American on the Environmental Business Utilizing Low-Temperature Active Catalysts

On 1st July, 2020, Furuya Metals Co., Ltd. (Headquarters: Toshima-ku, Tokyo; Representative President: Takahito Furuya; "Furuya Metal"), signed a joint venture agreement with a subsidiary of Anglo American, Anglo Platinum Marketing Limited (Headquarters: London, UK; “APML”) to establish Furuya Eco-Front Technology Co., Ltd. ("Furuya Eco-Front"), which is engaged in environmental business utilizing low-temperature active catalysts.

Objective of Establishing Furuya Eco-Front
In 2017, Furuya established a system for mass production of low-temperature active catalysts (“FTeco catalysts”) to eliminate volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which cause allergies and offensive odors that are harmful to the human body, and ethylene, which accelerates the decay of plants. Furuya has been actively promoting this system.

In Japan, as well as in China and Southeast Asian countries, population inflow continues along with the economic development of urban areas, and security, safe food, reduction of household garbage, and improvement of public health are becoming major issues as compensation for enriching livelihoods. Furuya Eco-Front will utilize technologies for low-temperature active catalysts to meet demand for reducing food waste due to freshness degradation, and improving the health of people's lives through odor prevention, fungi prevention, and antibacterial effect.
